Kabras Sugar RFC came from behind to beat Menengai Oilers 19-5 and reclaim the Dala 7s title on Sunday afternoon at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu.
Under the guidance of assistant coach Ntabeni Dukisa, the Sugarmen dominated every stage of the second leg of the 2026 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit.
Their mission was to improve on their performance from the opening leg the previous weekend(Prinsloo 7s), where they fell to perennial rivals KCB Rugby in the final.

In a rematch of the 2024 finale, Kabras burst onto the pitch desperate to regain the trophy, yet despite their lively attacking moves, it was Oilers who struck first following relentless pressure.
Their slick offloading game eventually unlocked the Sugarmen’s defence as Daniel Kipchirchir timed his pass to perfection, sending John Okoth racing over for the opening try in the left wing.
The difficult conversion drifted wide, but the Oilers took a deserved 5-0 lead into the halftime break.
Kabras emerged from the interval with renewed purpose, raising the intensity around the breakdown and asking tougher questions of the Oilers’ defensive structure.
Their persistence was rewarded when Jackson Sketa produced a brilliant offload to release red hot Rayvon Ambale, who showed his blistering pace to dive over and level the scores at 5-5 after he missed his conversion.
The momentum swung decisively in Kabras’ favour moments later when Menengai Oilers were reduced to six men. Calvin Mulewa was shown a yellow card for a high tackle on Ambale, leaving the Oilers to weather the storm while playing a man down.
The Sugarmen wasted little time capitalising on the numerical advantage. Maintaining quick ball through several attacking phases, they stretched the depleted Oilers defence before Marvin Ashihundu crashed over for Kabras’ second try.
The Ambale’s successful conversion pushed the score to 12-5, giving the defending runners-up a lead they would never surrender.
With time running out, Oilers searched desperately for a route back into the contest, but Kabras’ defensive line remained organised and relentless, forcing handling errors and turnovers at crucial moments.
The Sugarmen then applied the finishing touch in the dying moments. Frederick Wangila powered over for the decisive try after another sustained attacking spell, before the conversion sailed through the uprights to stretch the lead to 19-5.
The final whistle sparked jubilant celebrations in the Kabras camp as they completed a memorable comeback to reclaim the Dala 7s crown.
The victory also propelled them to the top of the overall standings with 41 points, overtaking KCB ahead of the two-week break.
They will now head into the third leg of the 2026 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit, the Kabeberi 7s, with the momentum firmly on their side.
In the ladies category, Mwamba Ladies left it late making a comeback after Kenya Harlequin led much of the game with a 5-0 margin from Catherine before a try from Janet Okello cancelled it out.
Mwamba showed an intent with a last minute gasp from Irene Apiyo giving Mwamba their second Sportpesa National 7s Circuit title having won the Prinsloo 7s in Nakuru.
